Terms of Service

These are the terms for using InterviewBeacon. They're written in plain language, in good faith, to be clear rather than clever — but they arenot attorney-reviewed, and they aren't a substitute for legal advice specific to your own situation. If you need that, consult a lawyer; this page tells you honestly how InterviewBeacon is licensed and what's disclaimed.

Who you're contracting with

Two parties are involved, and it's worth being precise about which does what:

What your purchase licenses

A one-time $79 purchase grants you apersonal-use license, valid for 6 months from the date of purchase, to run the InterviewBeacon desktop app, activated on 1 device. You can free up that device slot yourself at any time via self-serve deactivation in the LemonSqueezy customer portal — no support request needed — for example if you move to a new machine within your license term.

Your license is silently revalidated roughly every 30 days. If you're offline when that happens, the app keeps working; if a license is revoked or has expired, the app degrades gracefully with a clear explanation rather than crashing. The exact mechanics are described on the Security page.

Future updates are license-gated: a valid license unlocks future updates and features for as long as it's valid. This is not a subscription and not a separate recurring charge — you pay once for a 6-month license, not per update. After your license's 6-month term ends, a new purchase is needed to keep using InterviewBeacon and receiving updates.

Bring your own API key (BYOK)

InterviewBeacon requires you to supply and pay for your own OpenAI or Anthropic API key. That usage is a separate contract between you and your chosen LLM provider, governed by that provider's own terms. InterviewBeacon is not a party to it: we don't bill for your API usage, we don't mark it up, and we're not responsible for your provider's pricing, availability, outages, rate limits, or the content of the model's output. Your $79 license covers the InterviewBeacon app; everything about your model usage is between you and your provider.

Acceptable use

By using InterviewBeacon, you agree not to:

An honest note about this section: InterviewBeacon contains no anti-tampering, obfuscation, or DRM enforcement — that's a deliberate, disclosed design choice for this audience and scale. So the acceptable-use terms above are expectations you agree to, not restrictions the software technically enforces against you. We're stating them as a good-faith agreement, not implying a detection or enforcement system that doesn't exist.

No warranty — provided "as is"

InterviewBeacon is provided "as is," without warranties of any kind, including fitness for a particular purpose. In particular: it's a support tool, not a guarantee of any interview outcome. Using it does not guarantee you'll pass an interview or receive a job offer, and no such result is promised.

Limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by law, InterviewBeacon's total liability to you for any claim arising from your use of the software is limited to the amount you paid for the license ($79). InterviewBeacon is not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages. This is a standard limitation for software of this kind.

Refunds

Refunds are 14 days, no hoops, for technical issues or accidental purchases. The full policy — including EU withdrawal rights and LemonSqueezy's role — is on the Refund Policy page.

Termination

Your license may be deactivated in two situations: if you receive a refund (see Refund Policy), or if you materially violate these terms. Deactivation follows the same graceful-degradation behavior described on Security — the app doesn't hard-crash; it drops to a limited state with a clear explanation.

One concrete example of the second case: activating a single key on an unusually large number of distinct devices — the pattern you'd expect from a key being shared or handed off rather than used personally. We don't run anti-tampering or anti-sharing DRM (see the honest note under Acceptable use above), but paid-license activations are logged for exactly this pattern (see Security), and a key showing it may be revoked as a Terms violation — without a refund (see Refund Policy).

Governing law

Governing law and dispute resolution: [to be finalized].

This section is intentionally left as a placeholder. No jurisdiction or venue has been decided, and rather than fabricate one, we're leaving it open until it's set properly. If this matters to your purchase decision, contact us.

Changes to these terms

These terms may be updated over time. There's no separate advance-notice commitment beyond what's posted here. Continued use after an update means you accept the current terms.

Contact

Questions about these terms go to the same place as everything else — see the Contact page. There's no separate legal contact address; a real person reads it.
